Dynamic Warm-Up vs Static Stretch

Interesting article on the NYTimes wellness blog. Writer Gretchen Reynolds takes to task the science of fitness and brings up reasons why sometimes it’s good not to stretch. Here’s the lead in:

“Most of us grew up hearing that we should warm up with a stretch. Strike and hold a pose, such as touching your toes, for 30 seconds or more, we were told, and you’ll be looser, stronger and injury-proof.” Recent studies beg to differ. Read more here.*

*Increasing range of motion and preparing the body for movement are the best ways to warm up. But don’t forget a cool down stretch post-workout. It’s always a good idea!
